This past Thursday was my last day of work. I decided to quit for about a million reasons, but the two main ones were boredom and frustration. I needed new challenges and new stimulation and to get the hell away from the people who were just in my way. It was such a relief to give my resignation a month ago that I quit having nightmares instantly. I went from having nightmares every night to not having a single one. Sleep is an amazing thing. It changes a person.
I've started my own communications business: Kamp Communications. Still working on the logo, Web site, business cards..., but I already have some jobs lined up. I think it will bring in enough business to keep that part of my brain working but still give me lots more time to take care of myself, the house, and my little family. I'm pumped.
On Thursday when Carter was helping me take the last of my things out to the car he said that he felt like we were starring in a musical montage, that we needed some music to "march" by. I felt more rebellious than that. I felt like we needed the gangster song from Office Space playing. You know, the one where they're beating up the fax machine. That would have been the perfect music. By the next day that had changed to light, ethereal music as I contemplated the next chapter. A weight had been lifted.
I'm not unaware of the challenges of this new role. I like to be the queen. It will be hard not to take over the house and forget that I rule next to a king. The hardest part, though, will be not shopping. I'll miss the money I had to spend on clothes for all of us. Buying Ainsley's wardrobe is always a great outlet for my extreme girliness. All those patterns and pink are just so much fun! I like creating my wardrobe too. Figuring out what reflects me and trying to find it. I'm betting it would lead to a lot fewer black shirts than it used to! Not having that really does make me a little sad, but who really gets to have it all. I'm thrilled to almost have it all. I have the happy family, the involved husband who cooks and loves on me, the time to be with all my people, and the freedom to spend my time the way I want to. Sounds damn good. Like prominent drums, a guitar with attitude, and a fully soaring orchestra.
