Man I'm tired. I've been up for hours and it isn't even 6:00 yet. Gumbo is keeping me company while I flip through page after page of Web drivel and wonder why my brain wouldn't shut up long enough for me to sleep. Actually, I slept long enough to have a dream about frigid weather in Longview, cats and dogs freezing on the side of the road, and me, my mom, my younger brother (who was actually Hawthorne) and my mom's friends trying to drive to Tyler with snow piling up on the roads. What the hell? That got me out of bed to check on Mama Kitty, who hasn't been doing very well lately. She's skin and bones. I'm worried something is seriously wrong, but I don't want to take her to the vet because I'm afraid the stress of a vet visit will be too much for her 17-year-old body.
Mainly, I think that procrastination has gotten the best of me. The to do list is long and I keep hitting road blocks. I'll give you one example. We recently had new outside doors installed. We picked textured fiberglass because it holds up well to Tallahassee heat and humidity and can still be stained like wood doors. But it seems there's the catch. The doors are in and ready to be stained, but turns out that no one around here, despite training videos... can actually stain the doors in a way that looks good. They suggest painting. Damn it. I want stained doors—that's why I paid extra for the textured fiberglass. Soooo, now I need to figure out what color to paint them, which means I need to decide what color I'm painting our bedroom and kitchen so that I can make sure the doors will compliment those colors, but I can't decide on whether I want the doors to match the room or complement it... so I'm frozen. The paint swatches have been sitting on my desk for two weeks collecting dust and weighing me down.
The birds and Hawthorne just woke up, so it's time to wrap up a report on the African yellow bat that's due today. That's a lot more fun than complaining about being tired!
Stay tuned—inspired by my Colorado sister-in-law, I'm going to start a family blog. I'm thinking Heyday for the title, but I have to check to see if it's available. It's on my to do list!
